The following senior grading syllabus is structured for all candidates going from red belt to white belt. The grading requirements are divided into three sections: 1 mon - stage one, 2 mon - stage two and 3 mon - stage 3.
The syllabus is designed so that the student works in conjunction with teacher working together on a three tier structured induction course. Both instructor and student must sign each level of examination; this will provide evidence that the student and teacher have covered the necessary grading requirements.
All adult beginners will start judo wearing a full red belt, this will identify them to everyone that they are at the novice stage.
Week One / level 1/ 1st Tag
- Explanation of judo etiquette
- Understand and explain reason for warm up /down.
- Understand and explain breaking the balance Kuzushi)
- Understand traditional normal sleeve hold
- Demonstrate all ukemi waza
- Show how and when you submit
- Terminology: Rei, Hajime, Mate, Dojo

- Explain the basic principal of judo
- Demonstrate Suri Ashi ( Sliding )
- Demonstrate Tsukuri ( floating )
- Demonstrate Uchi Komi

Week Three / Laval 3 3rd Tag
- Demonstrate general movement on the mat
- Demonstrate any Standing technique using suri ashi and the use of tsukuri
- Demonstrate Kake ( body contact)
- Show how uki receives throws
