Sam Sampson


Sam Sampson first began judo in 2010 at the age of 14 at the Sobell Judo Club. Closely following his father, he went on the achieve his 1st Dan by the age of 16, 2nd Dan at the age of 18 and 3rd Dan at 27. Since then, Sam has continued to develop his judo as an active competitor across both judo and other forms of grappling.


He claimed the WJF European Championship in 2016, placed 2nd at the WJF World Championships in 2019 and qualified for the IJF Cypriot National Team in 2019 at the Pancyprian Championships. Since then he has gone on to represent Cyprus internationally on one of the highest stages in judo, the IJF Tour. In 2024, he became the European Ground Fighting Champion.


Sam combines intensity and a strong technical understanding of judo to run sessions that test both the body and mind of our senior judoka. He is also one half of the successful YouTube channel, Sampson Judo.
