2023 World Sports Games

Congratulations to the Sobell Judoka who travelled to Riccione, Italy for the 2023 World Sports Games.

The World Sports Games (WSG) are an international event taking place every two years and welcoming up to 6000 participants. It is full of competitive sports and cultural exchange accompanied by a huge festival with the objective of gathering sports friends, as a worldwide family.

After taking part in a parade and opening ceremony, the team took to the tatami to contest for medals. A long day of fighting, our judoka managed to secure multiple placings across their respective weight categories.

Full results below:

🇬🇧 (-66kg) Justine Reyes - Bronze 🥉

🇬🇧 (-73kg) Sam Charalambous - 5th

🇬🇧 (-81kg) Lucian Buleandra - Bronze 🥉

🇬🇧 (-90kg) Mahdi Boettenbach - Silver 🥈

🇨🇾 (-81kg) Sam Sampson - Bronze 🥉

A truly fantastic set of results at a very tough competition, full of high level judoka. At this level, it would be very easy to come away from these events unplaced, so we are very proud of our team managing to secure placings in every category 👏🏻👏🏻

Also a big thank you to our head Coach Sampson Sampson for taking the time to bring our judoka to this event and give them the opportunity to compete at this level 🙇
