I do BJJ, do I still need an induction?

It depends on your grade or how long you have trained.

Purple belt and above

If you hold a purple belt or higher then you will be able to join us for a session without an induction. Though, joining an induction will give you the best possible start in judo. Therefore if dates are available we will always prefer that you join an induction. You can book an induction via this page

If you do wish to skip the induction, please ensure that you contact us via this form to let us know that you are planning to attend.

Please be aware that you will need a judo licence to practice judo. If you already have an in date judo licence, please make sure that you bring it with you. If you do not have an in date licence, then we can organise that at our dojo on your first day.

You will also need to wear a white gi. You can wear a white BJJ gi for your first few sessions, but you will need to purchase a judo gi if you decide to continue practising judo. We sell these at our club.

Please also ensure that you read our club rules and also review this video on breakfalls before you attend. Please watch this video even if you believe that your breakfalls are fine, as BJJ breakfalls tend to be less comprehensive as what is taught in judo.

Please note that during your session we will review your breakfalls. If we feel that your breakfalls are not sufficient then we will withdraw you from the session and ask you to take part in an induction before continuing.

Blue belt and below.

You will need an induction. Although BJJ and Judo are extremely similar, our experience has shown us that not many BJJ schools teach proper breakfalls due to their focus on groundwork. Therefore you will still be required to do a beginners induction to ensure you can participate in judo in the safest possible way. If it become apparent that your breakfalls are sufficient, then you may be invited to join the main class after your first induction session. However, this will be decided by the instructor leading the induction.
